A photographic journey through magical Morocco. This 15-day tour will cover most of the highlights of this beautiful country. We will travel in Spring, when nature is bursting into life and temperatures are still relatively low to allow us relaxed exploration of the country.
We will travel in a small group accompanied by an excellent English speaking local guide who will take care of our well being and also give us an insight of his home country. This tour will be led by two photographers, Jeremy Woodhouse and Luka Esenko, who has visited Morocco many times and knows the best photo locations and times to be there.
Arrive in Casablanca and check in to the hotel. If early enough we will start exploring Casa and visit the Hasan II mosque for some afternoon and blue hour shots. Welcome dinner. Overnight and dinner in Casa hotel.
After breakfast we will take the Casa Voyager train from Casablanca to Meknes (our luggage is taken by bus). From Meknes we drive to Volubilis, ancient Roman city with wonderfully preserved mosaics. The ruined city is located on an elevated area overlooking fields and is beautiful to photograph in afternoon light. Overnight stay in the small but picturesque city of Moulay Idris, which offers more great photo opportunities.
After breakfast a city tour of Meknes. We will visit the most interesting sites of the city that offer unique photo opportunities such as the tomb of Moulay Idris, city granaries and local marketplace. Drive to Fes and check in to our riad situated in the old Medina (historical city centre). In the afternoon we will visit the view points that offer the best views of the old city, the largest urban car-free area in the world. Dinner at a local restaurant.
We will have a full day to explore medieval Medina and the newer parts of the city and royal palace. In Medina we will visit the traditional tanneries where leather processing hasn't changed for centuries. Walking the narrow streets we will photograph old crafts, fruit and vegetable stalls and busy street life. In the Fes El Jdid we will visit the old Jewish quarter and photograph the royal palace entrance - the most beautiful door in Morocco . Dinner and overnight.
Morning drive to the Middle Atlas mountains. We will stop in the town of Ifrane, more typical of a European Alpine city in France or Switzerland than Morocco. Continuing our route through Middle Atlas we will stop at the Cedar forest for more photo opportunities. In the afternoon we arrive in Azrou town which is famous for its Tuesday market and provides a great opportunity to photograph local life. Dinner and overnight.
After breakfast a scenic drive through Middle Atlas, with a stop in Zeida for lunch (a very, very local experience!) and late afternoon arrival in Merzouga, free time to relax and explore. Dinner and overnight in the hotel.
Our hotel is based at the foots of the Sahara sand dunes. We will have a full day to explore the vicinity, take a camel ride into the dunes and relax by the pool. In the evening we will climb one of the dunes to photograph the sunset. Local Berber people will keep us company and will make sure we don't get lost in the desert! Dinner and overnight.
After breakfast a drive through the town of Rissani with visit to the local marketplace for palm dates on the way. We continue to Erfoud then on to Todra. We will explore Todra in the afternoon with our cameras and then drive to Boulmane de Dades. Dinner and overnight.
After breakfast we will go for an exciting trip with 4x4 cars. First to Todra gorge, then over the mountains to beautiful Dades valley and on the way stops for photography and sightseeing (nomadic tents). Very scenic day for landscapes and mountainscapes! Dinner and overnight.
After breakfast we will drive through the valley of Roses and visit the oasis of Skoura and kasbah Amirdil. Along the way we will see the mountains of High Atlas in the distance and you will understand why this area has been filmed for many Hollywood movies. In the afternoon we will arrive in Ait Ben Haddou, an old but beautifully restored kasbah. We will use the afternoon light for a photography shoot. Dinner and overnight.
Morning free to visit the kasbah. Drive over the highest mountain pass in Morocco, Tizi'N'Tichka where we will stop for a quick photo. Time permitting a visit of one of the red villages for photos. Afternoon arrival in Marrakech and visit of Jema El Fna for more great photo opportunities and for a glass of fresh orange juice. Dinner and overnight.
We will have a full day to explore wonderful Marrakech and its treasures. We start with the Koutubia minaret and beautiful medresa Ben Youseff. In the afternoon we will visit the Majorelle gardens which offer great macro photo opportunities and is a great place to relax and enjoy cup of tea. In the evening we will go again to Jema El Fna square to try some long exposure photos and to enjoy a nice dinner. Overnight.
After breakfast we leave Marrakech to drive through Argane plantations and will make a stop at one of the cooperatives to see how the famous Argan oil is produced. Maybe we will even see tree-climbing goats! In the afternoon we will arrive in Essaouira, a small fishing town on the Atlantic coast and have time to photograph local fishermen at work. Dinner and overnight.
After breakfast we continue our trip along the Atlantic ocean. On the way to Casablanca we will stop in El Jadida for lunch and for a visit of the cistern which is another marvel worth capturing with our cameras. In the evening we will have a farewell dinner in Casablanca. Overnight.
