Slovenia
Slovenia, a green and diverse country between the Alps and the Mediterranean, boasts all the beauties of the Old World. It has a border with Italy, Austria, Hungary and Croatia. When you want to learn about Europe in one stroke, come to Slovenia. In just 20,273 square kilometres there are snow-covered mountains, a sea coast bathing in the Mediterranean sun, beautiful Karst caves and thermal springs, narrow white-water canyons and wide slow moving rivers, high mountain lakes and lakes that disappear mysteriously underground at the start of summer, ancient villages and medieval cities, the antique castles and modern entertainment, countless vineyards with top quality wines, and the only primeval forest in Europe. Here in this small and easily covered area, where hundreds of birds migrating south stop briefly and where dozens of unique indigenous plants find their home, more diverse experiences await you all year round than can be found anywhere else.
Slovenia is a country with a large area of forests, almost 12.000 square km which make Slovenia green country with different types of trees, plants and flowers. The visitors always get astonished by the nature. The forests are not magnificent only by themselves, they also give shelter to numerous charming kinds of animals and birds you cannot get tired to look at all the time. There is also a number of beautiful rivers and the most beautiful one is probably the emerald Soca (Isonzo) that rises in the Julian Alps. Glacier made Bohinj and Bled lakes with surrounding mountains are perfect base to enjoy the untouched Triglav National Park. The Karst area is totally different with disappearing rivers and lakes, underground caves rich with limestone formations and mysterious life. Fresh air that fills your lungs, mountain springs that quench your thirst in a hot summer, forest fruits waiting to be picked up and eaten, bird singing in the morning just outside your window, this is Slovenia.
Slovenia is a country on the crossroads of different cultural and geographical roads. It was populated since the prehistory times, through the stone and bronze age, the Roman period , Middle Ages, Venetian Republic, Austrian Empire and even Napoleon. The land of Slovenia witnessed many events that were significant for the whole European history. Every period and occupant leaved their traces there, so the country is rich in monuments from all historical periods.
