Capture bustling street scenes, modern and ancient graveyards and mosques as well as the vibrant Turkish market place,. Experiment with long exposures at ‘blue hour’ as locals gather at the Sebilj fountain or at the Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque for evening prayers. Document the city’s past wounds and remnants of the Yugoslavia war 20 years ago as well as its many efforts to move forward as an emerging European city of the 21st Century. Leave the city and explore the remote surrounding hill villages where life and traditions have changed little in the last 100 years. Frame stunning landscapes and capture candid portraits of the resilient and welcoming villagers living and working the land at 1500m.
This 4-day intensive photography workshop is designed for photographers of any ability looking to build on their landscape and travel photography skills. The workshop will be led by pro photographer and instructor, Luka Esenko. Review, critique and editing sessions plus mini photo assignments will be built into each day’s schedule.
The following is our planned itinerary; however, the schedule is flexible to allow for spontaneous photographic opportunities.
DAY 1: Arrive in Sarajevo
Transfer to the hotel for check in. We begin our tour with a short photography ‘blue hour’ session in the old Turkish quarter, Bascarsija, with its magnificent old mosques, bazaars and churches. Enjoy a welcome dinner with fellow photographers and instructor.
DAY 2: Sarajevo
We have a full day to explore Sarajevo’s charming city streets and historical sites camera in hand. Capture diverse architectural details, vivid colours in the busy market place and try your hand at candid portraits. Meet early evening for a blue hour workshop at the Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque to practise long exposures. After dinner we’ll review the day’s shoot with an optional critique session.
DAY 3: Sarajevo and surrounds
Today we venture out of Sarajevo into the surrounding hills and villages offering stunning vantage points for landscape photography as well as a chance to document village life and traditional farming practices. We return to Sarajevo in time to capture late afternoon light and a second blue hour shoot. Today’s focus will be on improving travel photography skills and composition. After dinner there will be an opportunity to review our shots and a tutorial on editing.
