Sarajevo is a photographer's paradise. The capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina offers diverse and unique photographic opportunities and much more - friendly people, fascinating history (be it 500 year old mosques and synagogues, '84 Olympics or '90s war) and of course excellent food!
Join us on this 4-day photography workshop, led by Slovenian pro photographer Luka Esenko, who knows the city intimately. We will cover different fields of photography, such as architecture, people, cityscapes and night photography. Some of the photographic highlights include the old Turkish quarter, Bascarsija, majestic mosques (some of them built by Turkish Sultans 500 years ago and some by Saudi Arabian sheikhs just 10 years ago), remnants of the Yugoslavia war, sunrises from top of the hill overlooking whole city as well as traditional village life in the nearby hills.
A visit to Sarajevo will also be a cultural experience. We will learn about Bosnian culture and its history where four religions (Muslim, Catholic, Orthodox and Jewish) coexisted for four centuries until the wars of 20th century.
And last - but not least - you will enjoy the food Sarajevo has to offer. Savour delicious Cevapcici, Burek or lamb on a spit. Vegetarians are well-catered for here with delicious traditional pies filled with spinach, potatoes, pumpkins, cabbage or cottage cheese. Sweet lovers will discover Baklava, Tufahija and Halva - traditional sweets that originate from Turkey and we won't leave Sarajevo without trying a cup of genuine Turikish black coffee with a rahat lokum sweet.
After arrival, transfer to our hotel for check in. We begin our tour with a short photography ‘blue hour’ session in the old Turkish quarter, Bascarsija, with its magnificent old mosques, bazaars and churches. Welcome dinner and evening introductory talk on photographing Sarajevo and tour details.
Sarajevo, the only Oriental city in Europe, is permeated by a special atmosphere, which fascinates all visitors. We have a full day to explore Sarajevo’s charming city street life, enjoying the countless photo opportunities. Sarajevo has been a meeting point for the East and the West throughout history, which has enriched the place with diverse architecture, art and cuisine. Dinner followed by a review of the day’s shoot.
Weather permitting we’ll venture out of Sarajevo into the surrounding hills and villages offering stunning vantage points, particularly for sunrise or late afternoon shots or we will continue exploring Sarajevo focusing on improving our travel photography and composition. Dinner plus early evening photography assignment and review.
